Ghana defender Alidu Seidu has been linked with a move from Rennes to fellow Ligue 1 club Nice, although there is currently no indication that the two French sides have reached an agreement.
The 26-year-old centre-back is reportedly attracting interest from Nice despite having a contract with Rennes that runs until 30 June 2029.
Seidu’s current market valuation is put at 6m, while his existing long-term deal means Rennes would have to agree to his departure before any transfer could take place.
For now, the defender remains a Rennes player and has yet to make a Ligue 1 or Europa League appearance for the club this season.
The reported interest from Nice comes as Seidu looks for an opportunity to add to his playing time after a season in which he has not featured for Rennes in either of the two competitions.
Seidu did represent Ghana at the 2026 World Cup, making one appearance during the tournament. He played 21% of the available minutes for the Black Stars and was shown one yellow card.
A potential move to Nice would allow the defender to remain in France while joining another club competing in Ligue 1.
Seidu has been with Rennes since January 2024, when he moved from Clermont Foot in a deal worth 11m.
His transfer to Rennes followed his development at Clermont, where he progressed through the club’s reserve side after arriving from JMG Abidjan in 2019.
The defender’s career in France has therefore included a progression from youth and reserve football to senior-level competition, eventually earning him a move to Rennes.
However, despite his established position at club level, Seidu has not played for Rennes in Ligue 1 or the Europa League so far this season.
The reported interest from Nice could therefore provide a possible change in circumstances, although there is no confirmation that a transfer will take place.
Any move would require Rennes and Nice to reach an agreement, with Seidu still tied to Rennes for almost three more years under his current contract.
The defender’s long-term commitment to Rennes remains an important factor in any potential transfer discussions.
Seidu joined Clermont from JMG Abidjan in 2019 and worked his way through the French club’s reserve set-up before establishing himself and eventually securing the move to Rennes.
He completed that transfer on 29 January 2024, with Rennes paying 11m for his services.
Since then, he has remained contracted to the club, with his current agreement scheduled to run until the end of June 2029.
The reported possibility of a move to Nice would consequently represent another Ligue 1 transfer for Seidu rather than a move away from French football.
But at this stage, the defender remains a Rennes player and there is no indication that a deal with Nice has been concluded.
His lack of appearances for Rennes in Ligue 1 and the Europa League this season provides the backdrop to the reported interest, while his participation for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup means he has continued to feature at international level.
Seidu will now remain under contract with Rennes while any potential move to Nice depends on whether the two clubs can reach an agreement.
For the moment, his future remains at Rennes, where his contract is due to expire on 30 June 2029.
