Burkina Faso-born midfielder Chec Bebel Doumbia has joined Romanian club Rapid 1923 on loan from Serie A side Genoa for the 2026-27 season.
The 18-year-old central midfielder completed the move on 18 August and will continue his development in Romania after spending the previous campaign in the Italian system.
Doumbia remains a Genoa player, with the move to Rapid 1923 structured as a loan rather than a permanent transfer. His listed market value is €400,000, although no permanent transfer fee is attached to the deal.
The switch represents another step in the young midfielder’s development as he moves from Italy’s top flight to Romania’s SuperLiga in search of further senior experience.
Doumbia has been developed within Italian football, beginning his youth career with SSD Casarano before continuing at Altamura.
His performances eventually earned him a move to Genoa, where he continued his progression through the club’s system.
The teenager’s development gathered further momentum during Genoa’s pre-season preparations. He was included in the Serie A club’s first-team squad and featured in their final friendly against Leicester City.
Genoa won that match 1-0, giving Doumbia an opportunity to test himself alongside senior players before his move to Romania was completed.
His loan to Rapid 1923 now provides a different challenge. Rather than remaining within the Italian football structure, Doumbia will experience a new league, a different club environment and another level of senior competition.
Rapid 1923 compete in Romania’s SuperLiga, while Genoa remain part of Serie A.
The move therefore gives the 18-year-old the chance to broaden his football education away from Italy while remaining under contract with his parent club.
For Doumbia, regular involvement will be an important part of the next stage of his career. Having already been exposed to Genoa’s first-team environment during pre-season, the move to Rapid offers him another opportunity to continue developing his game.
The central midfielder’s progression has been gradual.
His early years in Italian youth football were followed by spells at Altamura and Genoa, with the latter eventually giving him an opportunity to train and play around its senior squad.
His latest move is therefore not a permanent departure from Genoa but another step in that development process.
The loan also means Doumbia will be competing in a new footballing environment at a relatively young age. Rapid 1923 will provide the next setting in which he can gain experience and continue adapting to senior football.
The midfielder’s €400,000 listed market value also reflects the interest surrounding a player who is still at the beginning of his professional career, although the figure does not represent a transfer fee for this loan.
Doumbia’s immediate task will be to establish himself at Rapid 1923 and make the most of the opportunity presented by his first season in Romanian football.
