Galatasaray sweep aside Konyaspor to extend lead at the top

Galatasaray moved two points clear at the summit with a 4-0 win at Konyaspor, scoring through Victor Osimhen, Yunus Akgun, Aleksandr Batrakov and Rafael Leao.

Konyaspor held out for 12 minutes before Gabriel Sara’s free-kick from the left found Osimhen, who rose above the defence to head Galatasaray in front. Akgun doubled the advantage in the 28th minute, firing home from distance after a short corner and a lay-off.

Konyaspor goalkeeper Bahadır Han Gungordu had earlier denied Leao in the opening minute when the Portuguese forward ran through one-on-one. Gungordu was substituted in the 40th minute, but Galatasaray retained their 2-0 lead until half-time.

The visitors settled the contest soon after the restart. Batrakov scored in the 49th minute after being played into the area by Sara, claiming his first league goal. Leao then converted a penalty in the 55th minute after a VAR review, registering his first goal for Galatasaray.

Galatasaray recorded 16 attempts, with eight on target and 12 from inside the penalty area. Konyaspor managed nine shots, only four of them from inside the box. The expected-goals figures were 2.80 to 1.38 in Galatasaray’s favour, suggesting the scoreline was more emphatic than the overall chance quality.

Possession was relatively even at 54% to 46%, while Galatasaray’s 9-3 advantage in corners better reflected their pressure. Two of their goals came from set-piece situations.

Osimhen finished with five shots, three on target, and played 61 minutes. Leao attempted four shots. Sara supplied both of Galatasaray’s first-half and early second-half assists, while Batrakov also created three chances.

Wilfried Singo completed the full match in defence as Galatasaray kept a clean sheet. He won five of 10 duels and made two interceptions. Renato Nhaga played the final 29 minutes and had one shot, which was off target.

Batrakov, Torreira, Sara, Akgun and Osimhen were all replaced in the 61st minute, with Galatasaray preparing to host Stuttgart in the Champions League on Tuesday, 3 November, before facing second-placed Amed on Saturday, 7 November. El Chadaille Bitshiabu made his first appearance for the club when he replaced Sanchez in the 69th minute.

Konyaspor’s goalkeeper was withdrawn during the match and replaced by Deniz Ertas. No diagnosis or return timetable has been confirmed.

Among the other African internationals involved, Chidozie Awaziem and Arthur Masuaku played the full 90 minutes for Konyaspor. Jackson Muleka and Mostafa Mohamed played 45 minutes, Yhoan Andzouana went off in the 56th minute, and Ebrima Colley came on in the 71st. Osimhen scored after 61 minutes for Galatasaray, while Singo played the entire match.

Galatasaray have 25 points from 10 matches, two ahead of Amed and three clear of Trabzonspor, with a goal difference of +11. Konyaspor remain on eight points and have a goal difference of -7.
