Fulham are preparing to make a permanent move for AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze after his loan spell in England showed glimpses of his attacking ability, according to reports in Italy.
The Premier League club are said to be readying a €24 million (£20.5m) bid to trigger the purchase option included in the Nigerian international’s loan agreement. Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reports that AC Milan would be open to such a deal, with the winger no longer considered a key part of their long-term plans.
Chukwueze joined Fulham in search of more regular playing time after struggling for opportunities in Italy. Since arriving at Craven Cottage, he has gradually established a role under manager Marco Silva, contributing in attack despite not being a guaranteed starter.
The 24-year-old has made 17 league appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists. While many of those outings have come from the bench, his ability to influence matches has been evident, particularly in high-intensity situations.
One of his most notable displays came in early December, when he scored twice in a dramatic 5-4 defeat by Manchester City. The performance highlighted his pace and direct style, as well as his capacity to make a decisive impact against top opposition.
His move to England followed a period of frustration in Serie A, where he had found first-team opportunities limited. The switch to Fulham has offered him a chance to regain form and confidence, with more consistent involvement in competitive matches.
Despite the club’s apparent interest in securing his services on a permanent basis, concerns remain over his fitness. Recurring calf problems have interrupted his season, forcing him to miss several matches and restricting his ability to build momentum.
Those injury issues are understood to be a key factor Fulham are weighing as they consider whether to complete the transfer. While his technical qualities and attacking output are seen as valuable assets, his availability over the course of a full campaign remains under scrutiny.
AC Milan, meanwhile, are believed to be willing to sanction the move as they look to reshape their squad. Allowing Chukwueze to depart would align with their broader plans, while also providing the player with an opportunity to continue his career in the Premier League.
Fulham are expected to continue monitoring his fitness and performances over the remainder of the season before making a final decision. Should they proceed with the transfer, it would represent a significant investment in a player who has shown flashes of quality but has yet to fully establish himself as a regular starter.
