Frankfurt re-sign Cameroon-linked striker Futkeu after spell at Fürth

Noel Futkeu will return to Eintracht Frankfurt at the start of the 2026/27 season after the Bundesliga side activated a buy-back clause to bring the striker back from SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

The 23-year-old forward, who is of Cameroonian descent, has enjoyed a breakthrough spell in Germany’s second tier, convincing Frankfurt to secure his return following a productive period away from the club.

Futkeu initially joined Frankfurt in 2023 after finishing as the top scorer in Germany’s fifth division with SW Essen, where he netted 30 goals.

He went on to feature mainly for Frankfurt’s U21 side in the Regionalliga South-West, contributing 16 goals and eight assists as he continued his development.

Seeking regular senior football, Futkeu moved to Greuther Fürth during the summer of 2024 in a deal reportedly worth €250,000.

The move proved pivotal in accelerating his progress, as he quickly established himself as a key figure in the team.

Since arriving at Fürth, the striker has made 65 appearances in all competitions, scoring 26 goals and registering eight assists.

His performances this season have been particularly notable, with 15 goals placing him second in the 2. Bundesliga scoring charts.

In league action alone, he has played 30 matches, adding five assists to his tally.

Frankfurt’s decision to activate the buy-back clause, reportedly set at €1.3 million, reflects their confidence in his development and readiness for top-flight football.

His market value has also risen significantly during his time at Fürth, now estimated at around €5 million.

Eintracht’s board member for sport, Markus Krösche, welcomed the striker’s return and highlighted the benefits of his time away.

“Noel has developed very well in Fürth. Getting regular playing time in the second division has clearly done him a lot of good, both as a player and as a person.

“We’re delighted that he’s returning to us at the end of the season.”

The move underscores Frankfurt’s long-term planning strategy, with the club opting to re-integrate a player who has gained valuable experience and confidence at a competitive level.

It also highlights the effectiveness of structured development pathways, where young players are given opportunities to grow through consistent first-team football.

Futkeu is expected to rejoin Frankfurt on July 1, 2026, ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.

His return could provide additional attacking options for the club as they look to strengthen their squad for domestic and European challenges.

Meanwhile, Frankfurt continue their current season preparations, with a Bundesliga fixture against Augsburg on the horizon.
