Flick backs Lamine Yamal to become world’s best player

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick believes Lamine Yamal has the ability to become the best player in the world, insisting that the teenager’s performances for club and country show he is already moving towards that level ahead of their La Liga meeting with Getafe.

Flick praised the winger’s talent, mentality and determination to improve, saying he had been impressed by what he had seen from the young forward during Barcelona’s opening eight matches of the season and his recent appearances for Spain.

Yamal returned to Barcelona after an eventful international break in which he played 280 minutes, 10 minutes more than the amount reportedly promised by Spain coach Luis de la Fuente.

The 18-year-old continued to demonstrate his attacking quality in the national team, scoring four goals and providing one assist across four matches. His performances have maintained the momentum of his strong start to the campaign, despite the physical demands of his recent schedule.

With Barcelona preparing to face Getafe, attention has turned to whether Yamal will be given a rest after his international commitments. However, Flick indicated that he was not planning to leave the winger out of the team, pointing to the ability of young players to recover quickly.

The German coach’s comments underline the importance he places on Yamal, who has continued to establish himself as one of Barcelona’s leading attacking players.

Flick impressed by Yamal’s development

Flick said Yamal’s performances for Spain and Barcelona had been exceptional, highlighting the quality he had witnessed throughout the opening part of the season.

The Barcelona manager said: “What I saw in the matches with Spain and with us during the first eight matches was amazing, and I saw it myself in London against England.”

The coach’s praise reflects his confidence in the young winger’s ability to maintain his high level of performance while continuing to develop his game.

Yamal has attracted attention for his ability to influence matches through his attacking play, and his latest displays for Spain have added to the growing expectations surrounding his future.

Flick believes the teenager possesses more than just natural ability. He also highlighted Yamal’s approach to training and his willingness to keep improving as important factors in his development.

Flick added: “He will be the best player in the world, if he isn’t already,” praising Yamal’s mentality and his constant desire to improve, saying: “Thanks to his attitude, his mentality and his constant desire to improve, he has the right mindset, and he is currently on that path, and I am very happy about that.”

Barcelona weigh Yamal’s workload ahead of Getafe

Yamal’s workload during the international break has raised questions about how Barcelona will manage his fitness as the season progresses.

His 280 minutes for Spain came during a period in which he continued to deliver impressive attacking performances, contributing four goals and an assist in four matches.

Although the additional minutes exceeded the amount reportedly agreed with De la Fuente, Flick did not indicate that he intended to rest the winger against Getafe.

Instead, the Barcelona coach expressed confidence in young players’ ability to recover from demanding schedules, suggesting that Yamal could remain involved as the club prepares for its next league fixture.

For Flick, the winger’s development is being driven not only by his performances but also by his attitude and ambition. The coach’s public backing sends a clear message about his belief in Yamal’s potential as Barcelona seek to maintain their momentum in La Liga.

With the Getafe match approaching, Yamal remains a central figure in Barcelona’s plans, while Flick believes the young forward has the qualities to reach the very top of world football.
