Hussein Mohammed has strongly defended the Football Kenya Federation over the controversial Sh42 million insurance cover for the African Nations Championship 2025.
In a detailed statement, the embattled president insisted that all procedures were conducted in full compliance with Confederation of African Football regulations.
CAF Responsible for Insurance Procurement
According to Hussein, the insurance arrangement fell under the CAF Host Agreement, which governs tournament operations.
“The required insurance cover for CHAN 2025 was procured by CAF, not myself,” he stated.
He further clarified that FKF did not handle any payments related to the insurance.
“FKF did not transfer or pay any money to any insurance company for CHAN competitions.”
No Financial Loss, Says FKF
Hussein Mohammed maintained that all requirements were met and that the process ensured full protection for players, officials, and stakeholders.
He dismissed allegations of financial irregularities, stressing:
“There was no loss of funds in relation to the insurance cover.”
Claims of Smear Campaign
Beyond the insurance issue, the FKF president suggested the controversy is linked to internal resistance to reforms.
“When you fight corruption, it fights back,” he said.
He alleged a coordinated effort to damage his reputation and destabilise the federation.
“There are plans to run a sustained smear campaign against me… It shall not work.”
Clarifying FKF Structure
Hussein also addressed governance concerns within the federation.
He explained that:
- Financial and operational processes are handled by the General Secretary/CEO
- The president’s role is focused on strategic leadership
This, he said, ensures accountability within the system.
Call for Responsible Reporting
Hussein Mohammed urged media outlets to prioritise accuracy, warning that misinformation could undermine trust in football administration.
He also expressed willingness to cooperate with any investigations, while cautioning against reliance on unverified claims circulating online.
Highlighting Progress Under His Leadership
Despite the controversy, Hussein pointed to achievements during his tenure, including:
- Successful hosting of the African Nations Championship 2025
- Organisation of the FIFA Series Women’s Tournament
- Ongoing development across domestic leagues and grassroots football
Mounting Pressure on FKF
The statement comes at a time of increasing scrutiny on the Football Kenya Federation, with governance and transparency issues under the spotlight.
As investigations and reviews continue, the federation’s handling of the matter will remain closely watched.
