Ferran Torres has brought his four-and-a-half-year spell at Barcelona to an emotional conclusion after completing a move to Paris Saint-Germain for 50m euros.
The Spain forward used his social media accounts to thank Barcelona supporters and reflect on a period in which he became an established member of the squad. The transfer makes Torres the fifth most expensive player sold in Barcelona’s history.
Torres said wearing the Barcelona shirt and representing the club’s colours had been a great honour. He also credited his time at Camp Nou with helping him develop both as a footballer and as a person.
The 25-year-old joined Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022 and spent the next four-and-a-half seasons with the Catalan club. He has now chosen a fresh challenge with Paris Saint-Germain, who secured his signing for a fee of 50m euros.
In his farewell message, Torres said his years at Barcelona had made him “a better player and a better person”. He explained that he had arrived with the ambition of giving everything he could and helping the club regain the position it deserved.
Barcelona had become a home for him during his time with the club, Torres added, underlining the emotional importance of his departure.
He also paid tribute to the relationships he formed during his spell in Barcelona. The forward said he was leaving behind friends both on and off the pitch, as well as people who had played an important part in his personal development and in that of his team-mates.
Torres described his time at the club as a chapter filled with memories and achievements. His departure marks the end of a period in which he played more than 200 matches for Barcelona, scoring 65 goals and providing 23 assists.
He leaves with a substantial collection of honours. Torres won three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and three Spanish Super Cup titles during his Barcelona career.
His arrival in January 2022 followed a spell with Manchester City, where he had moved after beginning his senior career in Spain. At Barcelona, he became one of the team’s regular attacking options and contributed goals and assists across domestic competitions.
The move to Paris Saint-Germain gives Torres the opportunity to begin a new stage of his career after establishing himself at one of Europe’s most prominent clubs. Barcelona, meanwhile, have completed one of the most valuable player sales in their history, with the 50m-euro agreement placing Torres fifth on that list.
His farewell message brought his Barcelona career to a close with a focus on gratitude, personal growth and the connections he made during his time in the club’s colours.
