Spain and Barcelona forward Ferran Torres is reportedly set to join European champions PSG in a €50m transfer, completing a major change in the 26-year-old’s summer.
Torres is expected to move from Camp Nou to Parc des Princes after a season in which he made a significant contribution for Barcelona, although he did not establish himself as a regular starter. The forward scored 21 goals and supplied three assists across 49 appearances for the Catalan club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal will see Torres swap Barcelona for PSG, with the transfer valued at €50m. The move would take the Spain international to the reigning European champions after a summer in which he also scored the goal that secured Spain’s second World Cup.
Torres’ performances have attracted interest elsewhere, including from Premier League club Liverpool. However, it is understood that his preference was to join PSG, despite the possibility of a move to England being discussed.
His departure would leave Barcelona facing an even greater need to strengthen their attacking options. The club has already seen a move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez become increasingly difficult, with Atletico unhappy with the way Barcelona have conducted their pursuit.
Atletico insist Alvarez will not join Hansi Flick’s side this summer, making Barcelona’s search for a striker more challenging as they prepare for life without Torres.
Barcelona have also lost Robert Lewandowski during the current transfer window. The Poland forward left the club as a free agent to join MLS side Chicago Fire.
Torres’ proposed transfer therefore represents another significant change to Barcelona’s forward line. He leaves after a productive campaign in front of goal, despite not securing a permanent place in the starting XI, and with the club still seeking a solution to its striker shortage.
For PSG, the deal would add a World Cup-winning Spain international to a squad that has already been crowned European champions. For Torres, it marks the next stage of a summer that has included a decisive moment for his country and a move to one of Europe’s leading clubs.
