Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Spain forward Ferran Torres from Barcelona on a contract running until 2031, with the transfer announced by both clubs on Saturday.
The financial terms were not disclosed by either club. However, media reports said Paris Saint-Germain had paid €50m ($57.83m) for the 26-year-old, who arrives in the French capital after establishing himself as one of Spain’s leading attacking players.
Torres said he was pleased to begin the next stage of his career with a club that has major ambitions in domestic and European football.
“I’m delighted to be beginning a new adventure at such an ambitious club as Paris St Germain,” Torres said in a statement.
The forward also thanked Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club’s football advisor Luis Campos and head coach Luis Enrique for making the move possible.
“I’d like to thank President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, (PSG’s football advisor) Luis Campos and coach Luis Enrique for giving me the opportunity to join the team, which I hope to help win as many trophies as possible.”
Torres joins Paris Saint-Germain after scoring 21 goals and creating three assists in 49 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona during their most recent campaign. His contribution came as Barcelona retained their LaLiga title.
The move brings an end to Torres’ spell at Barcelona, where he arrived in 2022 following a brief period with Premier League club Manchester City. He now begins a new chapter in France with a deal that ties him to Paris Saint-Germain for the next five years.
His arrival also reunites him with Luis Enrique. Torres previously worked with the Spanish coach during Luis Enrique’s time in charge of the national team, giving the new Paris Saint-Germain signing an established relationship with his manager before the start of his club career in France.
Torres has scored 25 goals in 65 appearances for Spain. He was described as a Spain World Cup hero after scoring the extra-time winning goal in the World Cup final against Argentina.
That international pedigree, together with his record at Barcelona, forms part of the attraction for Paris Saint-Germain as the club adds another forward to its squad. Torres’ ability to operate in attack and his previous experience under Luis Enrique are expected to be important elements of his transition.
The agreement means Torres will continue his career outside Spain after developing through his previous club experiences and moving to Barcelona in 2022. Paris Saint-Germain have now secured his services through 2031, while Barcelona have confirmed the departure of a player who helped them defend their LaLiga crown.
