The president of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA), Véron Mosengo-Omba, has called for sweeping reforms to reshape football in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, criticizing the current structure of the domestic league and urging stricter governance across the game.
Speaking about the challenges facing Congolese football, Mosengo-Omba questioned the credibility of a league system that operates without relegation, arguing that such a structure undermines competitiveness and the integrity of the national championship.
He also highlighted the league’s inconsistent calendar as a major obstacle to development, pointing to repeated delays in the start of seasons and the absence of a reliable competition schedule.

Mosengo-Omba argued that football should be governed by merit on the field, warning that administrative interventions have eroded confidence in the domestic competition.
The federation chief said restoring the credibility of Congolese football would require a comprehensive restructuring process founded on discipline, transparency and respect for regulations.
“We need to rebuild our football with clear rules and respect for those rules,” Mosengo-Omba said, stressing that meaningful and sustainable progress depends on accountability at every level of the game.
He also issued a firm warning to clubs, making it clear that the federation would no longer tolerate attempts to bypass disciplinary or administrative procedures through personal connections or influence.
