Cesc Fabregas admitted Como were “lucky” to secure a 1-0 Serie A victory against Venezia on Sunday, November 1.
Lucas Da Cunha’s penalty proved decisive as Como claimed all three points and moved into the Serie A top four.
The match also featured a second penalty incident. Venezia were awarded a spot-kick after an incident involving Luis Milla, but the decision was overturned following a VAR review.
Fabregas said the outcome could have been different and accepted that the decision had gone in Como’s favour.
“When I saw it, it looked like a clear penalty to me,” Fabregas told TuttoMercatoWeb.
“Before coming here, I asked whether it was a penalty or not. It’s not me saying it, but I was told it wasn’t, because Luis doesn’t move his arm and is trying to keep it out of the way.
“It looked like a penalty to me, we were lucky, but people who understand it better than me, professionals, said it wasn’t. Ours? That was clearer.
“If the ball reaches Tasos and he isn’t touched from behind, it’s a goal. It’s difficult, and I’m saying that honestly.”
Fabregas therefore acknowledged that the penalty awarded to Como appeared more convincing to him than the spot-kick initially given to Venezia. He also accepted that the visitors had been fortunate after VAR intervened to cancel the latter decision.
