Everton are continuing negotiations with Manchester United over a potential transfer for 20-year-old forward Ethan Wheatley, according to the Daily Mail.
The Premier League club view Wheatley as a signing with long-term potential, while also believing he could make a contribution to the first team in the present. Talks between Everton and Manchester United remain ongoing as the clubs discuss the proposed move.
Wheatley is an England U20 international and stands 6ft 3in (approximately 1.91m) tall. He is also known for his pace, with his sprint speed often reaching 36 km/h.
The forward has spent recent seasons gaining experience away from Manchester United. He has had loan spells with Northampton and Bradford City, while continuing to develop after producing consistently strong scoring numbers during his time in Manchester United’s youth teams.
Everton’s interest reflects their desire to add a forward who can offer both future potential and an immediate option for the senior side. Wheatley’s age, physical profile and record at youth level are understood to be among the factors behind the club’s interest.
The negotiations form part of wider transfer activity at Manchester United, with another young forward also completing a move away from Old Trafford.
Manchester United winger Ethan Williams has joined Peterborough XI for an undisclosed fee. The agreement includes several provisions designed to protect Manchester United’s future interests in the player.
Those terms include add-ons, a 50% sell-on clause, a buy-back clause and a matching offer right. The clauses would give Manchester United the opportunity to benefit financially from Williams’ future development or retain options should he attract interest from elsewhere.
Williams’ departure and the continuing discussions over Wheatley underline the movement surrounding Manchester United’s younger players. While Wheatley remains the subject of negotiations with Everton, Williams has now secured a permanent move to Peterborough XI.
The clubs have not disclosed the fee involved in Williams’ transfer. The financial details of the proposed Wheatley deal have also not been announced.
