Besiktas have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the initial loan signing of Ernest Poku, with the deal including an option to buy the Dutch-born Ghanaian forward.
Poku is due to travel to Istanbul tomorrow to complete the final stages of his move and formalise his commitment to the Turkish club, known as the Black Eagles.
The proposed agreement also includes the possibility of a long-term contract running until June 2031. The arrangement means Poku could remain at Besiktas beyond the initial loan period, should the purchase clause be activated.
The transfer represents an important potential step in the career of the Netherlands-born attacker, who has Ghanaian origins. Poku has developed within the elite level of European football and is now preparing to continue that progression in the Super Lig.
Besiktas see his explosive style and attacking versatility as valuable qualities for their tactical approach. His ability to contribute in different offensive roles is expected to provide the Istanbul side with an additional option as they look to strengthen their squad.
The move is not yet fully completed, with Poku still required to travel to Istanbul and finalise the agreement. However, the clubs have reached the basis of a deal that could take the forward from Bayer Leverkusen to Besiktas on an initial loan.
Poku will have an early opportunity to make an impression in Turkish football once he begins working with his new team. His first appearances in the Super Lig will also give him the chance to win over Besiktas supporters, who will be watching closely as he begins the next stage of his career.
The agreement places the focus on Poku’s immediate integration into the Besiktas squad while also leaving open the prospect of a longer association with the club. If the purchase option leads to a permanent transfer, the proposed commitment would extend as far as June 2031.
For now, the next step is his journey to Istanbul, where the remaining details of the move are expected to be completed. Poku’s arrival would give Besiktas a young attacking player with an explosive profile and the flexibility to operate within the club’s offensive system.
The transfer therefore combines a short-term loan with a potential long-term future in Turkey. Poku is set to begin that process after leaving Bayer Leverkusen and travelling to meet his new club, with the Super Lig providing his immediate stage.
