Egypt are in discussions with Ghana, Tanzania and Rwanda over a possible international friendly during the September international break.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) is exploring the possibility of facing one of the three African nations as it looks to give its squad competitive preparation ahead of the next stage of international football.
Talks are still at an early stage and Egypt have yet to reach an agreement with any of the three football associations. The EFA is considering all three options before selecting its preferred opponent.
The proposed fixture would allow Egypt to remain active during the international window while also providing an opportunity to assess the squad against another African side.
A final decision on the opponent has not yet been made, with discussions continuing with Ghana, Tanzania and Rwanda.
The September window is set to be an important period for African national teams as the continent’s international calendar moves forward following the 2026 Fifa World Cup.
The next major competition on the African football calendar is the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, which is scheduled to begin in September. As a result, national teams are looking to make effective use of the international break before competitive matches resume.
For Egypt, securing a suitable opponent would provide an opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate players and continue preparations for the challenges ahead.
A meeting with Ghana would also carry significance for the Black Stars, who are beginning their own preparations following their participation at the 2026 World Cup.
Ghana reached the knockout stage of the tournament after finishing third in their group. Their campaign eventually ended in the round of 32, where they were beaten 1-0 by Colombia.
A potential friendly against Egypt would therefore give Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz another chance to assess his players after the World Cup and develop his plans for the team’s upcoming international commitments.
It would also provide Ghana with an opportunity to maintain competitive momentum during the September window.
However, Ghana are only one of the possibilities being examined by the EFA.
Tanzania and Rwanda are also involved in discussions as Egypt considers which opponent would be most suitable for the proposed fixture.
