Egypt confirm Spain clash in Barcelona after emergency talks

The Egyptian Football Association confirms a Match friendly against Spain in Barcelona following an emergency meeting to finalise World Cup preparations.

Egypt’s preparations back on track

The Egyptian Football Association has confirmed that Egypt will face Spain national football team in an international friendly in Barcelona later this month, following an emergency meeting aimed at resolving disruptions to the national team’s preparation plans.

The decision ensures that Egypt’s programme ahead of the 2026 World Cup remains intact, despite logistical and scheduling challenges in recent weeks.

Emergency meeting addresses disruptions

The announcement came after a high-level meeting attended by EFA president Hany Abo Rida and national team head coach Hossam Hassan. The discussions focused on revising and securing the national team’s preparation schedule amid complications linked to recent events.

In an official statement, the federation said its board had convened to assess the situation and ensure that previously agreed plans could still be implemented. Officials emphasised their determination to overcome obstacles and maintain continuity in the team’s preparations.

The statement noted that, despite the challenges, the federation succeeded in resolving all logistical issues, allowing the national team to proceed with two scheduled international friendlies.

Spain fixture confirmed in Barcelona

Egypt will now play Spain on 31 March in Barcelona, a match seen as a key test against top-level opposition. The fixture forms part of a broader strategy to prepare the squad for the demands of international competition ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The confirmation follows earlier uncertainty surrounding the arrangement of friendly matches, with organisers working to secure appropriate venues and travel logistics within a limited timeframe.

Saudi Arabia match also scheduled

Before facing Spain, Egypt are set to take on Saudi Arabia national football team on 27 March in Jeddah. The two matches will be played within a short span, presenting additional physical demands on the squad.

The EFA acknowledged that the tight schedule and travel requirements could lead to fatigue among players. However, the coaching staff has expressed support for the plan, viewing the fixtures as valuable opportunities to test the team against varied opposition.

Coaching staff back preparation plan

Head coach Hossam Hassan and his technical team have endorsed the federation’s efforts to preserve the preparation programme. The staff is said to be keen on maintaining a competitive schedule, even under challenging conditions.

According to the federation’s statement, the coaching team welcomed the arrangements and remained committed to ensuring that the squad is fully prepared for upcoming international competitions.

 Focus on world cup readiness

Commitment to Strong Preparation

The Egyptian Football Association concluded by reaffirming its commitment to providing the best possible conditions for the national team. Officials stressed their intention to meet the expectations of supporters by ensuring thorough preparation ahead of the World Cup.

With matches against Saudi Arabia and Spain now confirmed, Egypt’s focus shifts to performance on the pitch, as the team looks to build momentum and cohesion in the lead-up to the global tournament.
