Dynamo Kyiv ready to meet Wolfsberger’s demands for Cheick Diabaté

Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv have begun negotiations to sign Ivorian defender Cheick Mamadou Diabaté from Austrian club Wolfsberger AC during the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old centre-back has emerged as one of the promising young African defenders playing in Austria after impressing in the Bundesliga this season.

Diabaté has made 20 league appearances for Wolfsberger AC and his performances have reportedly attracted interest from Dynamo Kyiv, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

The Ukrainian club, currently fourth in the domestic league and also through to the national cup final, are understood to be prepared to meet Wolfsberger’s financial demands in order to secure the defender’s services.

Although Diabaté remains under contract with the Austrian side until 2027, Wolfsberger are reportedly unwilling to sanction a transfer for less than €2m (£1.7m).

The player is currently valued at around €800,000 by football transfer platform Transfermarkt.

Talks between both clubs are ongoing and reports suggest an agreement could be reached if a compromise is found over the final transfer fee.

For Diabaté, the proposed move could mark an important milestone in his career as he continues his rise in European football.

The young Ivorian defender has steadily built his reputation in Austria, where he has gained valuable top-flight experience despite his age. A move to Dynamo Kyiv would offer him another opportunity to test himself at a higher competitive level while increasing his visibility on the European stage.

Dynamo Kyiv remain one of the most recognised clubs in Eastern European football and have a long history of competing in continental competitions.

The club’s interest in an African defender also highlights the growing influence of players from the continent across European leagues.

African footballers continue to play a significant role in clubs across Europe, with scouts increasingly looking toward emerging talents from West Africa.

Ivory Coast, in particular, has produced several high-profile defenders and midfielders who have gone on to establish successful careers abroad.

Diabaté now appears to be the latest young Ivorian attracting attention beyond his current league following a strong campaign in Austria.

The negotiations are still ongoing, but indications are that the Ukrainian club are determined to finalise a deal before the start of the new season.

For Diabaté, the move would not only represent a fresh sporting challenge, but also another step in the growing journey of African talent making its mark across European football.
