DR Congo international defender Nathan Idumba Fasika has joined Tanzanian club Azam FC, beginning a new chapter in a career that has already taken him across several African and European leagues.
The 27-year-old centre-back has completed his move to Azam FC, where he will work under compatriot Florent Ibenge and join a growing group of Congolese players at the club.
Idumba, who has previously played in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Norway and Libya, will wear the number two shirt at his new club.
His arrival is also expected to strengthen an Azam side with ambitions of competing for honours both domestically and on the continent.
The Tanzanian club is involved in the CAF Confederation Cup, giving the Congolese defender an opportunity to compete in African club football once again.
For Idumba, the move represents another international experience after spells in different football environments.
The defender began his career in the DRC before moving to South Africa, where he played for Cape Town City.
He subsequently took his career to Europe with Norwegian club Vålerenga before returning to Africa for a spell with Al-Ahly Benghazi in Libya.
His latest transfer takes him to Tanzania, adding another country to a career that has seen him play football in four different national leagues outside his homeland.
The move also reunites Idumba with Ibenge, one of the most prominent Congolese coaches in African football.
Ibenge is in charge of Azam and will now have another player from the DRC available to him as the club prepares for the new season.
The relationship between the coach and the defender could be important as Azam look to make the most of Idumba’s experience.
At 27, the centre-back arrives with several years of senior football behind him. His time in South Africa, Norway and Libya has exposed him to different playing styles and competitions, while his experience in the DRC established his reputation before his move abroad.
