Nigeria-Germany winger Dickson Abiama has joined Rot-Weiss Essen on a permanent deal from 2. Bundesliga side 1. FC Kaiserslautern for a fee of €50,000. The 27-year-old right-sided attacker has signed a contract with the 3. Liga club until 30 June 2028.
Abiama returns to Essen after spending part of last season on loan at the Stadion an der Hafenstraße from Kaiserslautern. That temporary spell ended in June 2026, but Essen have now moved to bring him back on a full-time basis ahead of the new campaign.
Born in Lagos and standing at 1.84m, Abiama offers versatility across the front line, but is primarily used on the right wing and prefers his right foot. His switch also keeps him in German football, where he has built up significant experience across the top three tiers.
Abiama arrives with more than 150 senior league appearances in Germany, including 24 in the Bundesliga and 100 in the 2. Bundesliga, alongside further outings in the 3. Liga and regional competitions. He has also featured in the DFB-Pokal, scoring twice in seven appearances in the national cup.
The forward first made his name with Greuther Furth, joining them on a free transfer in 2020 and working his way into the professional ranks before moving to Kaiserslautern in January 2024. Loan spells at 1860 Munich and then Rot-Weiss Essen followed, leading to this latest move.
Abiama’s transfer from Kaiserslautern to Rot-Weiss Essen is now complete, with the winger committed to the club for the next two seasons.
