Deportivo confirm Angelino return to Spain ahead of new La Liga season

Deportivo have officially announced the arrival of Spanish midfielder Angelino from Roma, confirming the player’s return to his home country ahead of the new La Liga campaign.

The move will initially see Angelino join Deportivo on loan for one year, with the agreement running until the summer of 2027. The Spanish club have also retained the option to sign him permanently at the end of the loan period.

Deportivo’s press office confirmed the transfer, giving the club’s supporters their first official confirmation of the deal. Angelino will now continue his career in Spain after leaving Roma, as Deportivo prepare for their return to the top level of Spanish football.

The signing comes at an important stage for Deportivo, who have returned to the Spanish top flight. The club, Spanish champions in 2000, are rebuilding their squad for their latest challenge in the country’s highest division, and the addition of Angelino provides further reinforcement before the start of the season.

Although the agreement is currently temporary, Deportivo have protected their position by securing the right to complete a permanent purchase. That option will allow the club to decide whether to retain Angelino beyond the 2026-27 campaign, rather than committing immediately to a full transfer.

The new Spanish La Liga season is scheduled to begin on 15 August. Deportivo’s opening fixture will be played at home against Elche, giving Angelino the potential to make his first appearance for the club in front of their own supporters.

His move marks a return to Spanish football after his spell with Roma in Italy. Deportivo have formally confirmed that the midfielder will be part of their squad for the forthcoming campaign, while the structure of the deal leaves the possibility of a longer stay beyond next summer.

For Deportivo, the priority is now to prepare for their return to the top division and to make the most of their opening home match against Elche. Angelino’s arrival is the first confirmed element of that preparation, with the club adding experience from Roma while retaining flexibility over his long-term future.

The agreement will remain a loan until the summer of 2027 unless Deportivo choose to activate their purchase right. Until then, Angelino is set to represent the club as they begin their first season back in Spain’s highest division.
