Al Ahly have been given a significant boost ahead of their opening match in the decisive phase of the Egyptian Premier League, after Ceramica Cleopatra FC confirmed that 11 players will miss the encounter.
The two sides are scheduled to meet on Tuesday at the Arab Contractors Stadium in what marks the beginning of a crucial stage in the league campaign. However, Ceramica Cleopatra will approach the fixture with a severely depleted squad, largely due to a combination of injuries and suspension.
The club announced that a total of 11 players will be unavailable, including Amr El Solia, Amr Qalawa, Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed, Karim Nedved, Ibrahim Mohamed, Freddy Koblan, Abdullah Magdy, Mohamed Reda Bobo, Mohamed Abdullah, Simukonda and Islam Issa.
Suspension and injuries disrupt preparations
Among those missing, experienced midfielder Amr El Solia will be absent due to an accumulation of yellow cards, ruling him out through suspension. The remaining ten players are sidelined with various injuries, further compounding the team’s difficulties ahead of the high-profile match.
Midfielder Amr Qalawa is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines after suffering a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his knee. His recovery period is expected to last between four and six weeks, effectively bringing his season to an end.
A similar timeline applies to right-back Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed, who is on loan from Al Ahly. He has sustained a grade three hamstring tear, also ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Karim Nedved is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a hamstring injury, while Ibrahim Mohamed is dealing with an adductor muscle strain. Ivorian player Freddy Koblan has been ruled out for three to four weeks due to an adductor tear, an injury also affecting Abdullah Magdy.
Further concerns include Mohamed Reda Bobo, who is suffering from an adductor strain, and Mohamed Abdullah, the winger on loan from Al Ahly, who has sustained torn ankle ligaments. Simukonda is also unavailable due to a hamstring strain.
Issa injury adds to concerns
Adding to the list of absentees is Islam Issa, who recently suffered a serious knee injury while representing the Egypt national football team in a friendly against Spain at Espanyol’s stadium. Although he is set to undergo further medical examinations, he has already been ruled out of the upcoming match.
The scale of the injury list presents a significant challenge for head coach Ali Maher, who must now reorganise his squad to compete against one of the league’s strongest sides.
Decisive stage begins under pressure
The timing of these absences could prove crucial, as the match forms part of the decisive phase of the Egyptian Premier League, where results carry added importance in determining the final standings.
For Al Ahly, the situation represents a potential advantage as they look to start this phase strongly. For Ceramica Cleopatra, however, the focus will be on managing limited resources while attempting to deliver a competitive performance.
A test of squad depth
The fixture now takes on an added dimension, with Ceramica’s depleted lineup likely to influence both tactical decisions and the overall balance of the contest. While injuries are an unavoidable aspect of football, the scale of this setback underscores the challenges teams face during demanding seasons.
As both sides prepare for the encounter, attention will centre on whether Ceramica can overcome their difficulties or if Al Ahly will capitalise on their opponent’s weakened squad.
