DR Congo and Belgium centre-back Daniel Tshilanda Kabongo has joined Union SG U23 from Sport Hasselt.
The 20-year-old defender returns to the Union Saint-Gilloise setup after spending the 2025-26 season at Sport Hasselt. His move was registered on 1 September 2026, with Union SG U23 competing in Belgium’s 1ste Nationale FFA.
Kabongo previously left Union SG U23 for Sport Hasselt on 1 July 2025, joining the club on a free transfer. Before that move, he had progressed through Union Saint-Gilloise’s youth structure, moving from Union SG’s youth team to the under-18 side in 2022 and then to the under-23 squad in 2023.
The right-footed centre-back is 1.83m tall and holds both DR Congo and Belgian nationality. His latest return places him back with the club where he developed before making the switch to Sport Hasselt.
Kabongo was part of the Union Saint-Gilloise setup during the club’s Belgian Super Cup-winning 2024-25 campaign. The honour is listed among his career achievements, with Union Saint-Gilloise taking the trophy that season.
His return comes as Union SG U23 begin their 2026-27 campaign in the 1ste Nationale FFA. Kabongo has been included in the squad for the new season, although he has yet to make an appearance or record a goal or assist in the competition.
The defender’s career to date has been centred on Belgian football, with his route taking him from Union SG’s youth ranks into the under-23 side, followed by a season with Sport Hasselt before his return to Union.
Kabongo has completed his move back to Union SG U23.
