Daniel Banjaqui: Benfica defender linked with Real Sociedad move

Portuguese-Guinean right-back Daniel Banjaqui has been linked with a move from Benfica to Real Sociedad, who play in LaLiga.

The 18-year-old defender has made two appearances in Liga Portugal and one in the Europa League this season. He has also started three matches for Benfica B in Liga Portugal 2, highlighting his involvement across the club’s senior teams.

Banjaqui moved from Benfica B to the first team in July 2026 after progressing through the club’s academy. He joined Benfica’s youth set-up from Real Formacao in 2018 and has remained with the Portuguese club throughout his development.

His market value is listed at €10m, while the reported interest from Real Sociedad comes with Banjaqui still under a long-term contract at Benfica. That agreement runs until 30 June 2031.

The defender was part of the Portugal Under-17 side that won both the Under-17 World Cup and European Under-17 Championship in 2025. He also won the Torneio Internacional Algarve Under-17 competition with the same age-group team.

Banjaqui has yet to score or provide an assist in his senior appearances this season. The reported move would take him from Liga Portugal to LaLiga, but he remains a Benfica player with five years left on his current contract.
