Crystal Palace have agreed personal terms with Marseille midfielder Quinten Timber, according to GFFN, but the proposed transfer remains dependent on the two clubs reaching an agreement over the fee.
The English club still have to negotiate the financial details of the deal with Marseille before Timber can complete a move to Selhurst Park. The player’s market value is estimated at €25m by Transfermarkt.
Marseille have been forced to sell players throughout the summer, with the club facing the prospect of parting company with several members of their squad during the final days of the transfer window.
Timber joined Marseille in January and made 16 appearances during the second half of last season. Marseille manager Bruno Genesio wanted to keep the midfielder, but the club’s financial situation has made it difficult to retain players who are attracting interest from elsewhere.
The agreement over Timber’s personal terms represents progress in Crystal Palace’s pursuit, although no transfer has yet been completed. Marseille and Crystal Palace must still settle the amount to be paid for the 25-year-old before the move can go ahead.
Timber’s possible departure is part of a wider period of uncertainty for Marseille, who have spent much of the summer needing to generate income from player sales. The club have now found themselves close to losing several players as the transfer window approaches its conclusion.
The Netherlands international arrived at Marseille in January and featured 16 times in the latter part of the previous campaign. His performances have made him a sought-after player, despite Genesio’s desire to retain him.
Crystal Palace’s interest has now advanced to the point where an agreement with the player has been reached. The remaining issue is the transfer fee, with Marseille expected to assess whether the proposal reflects the value they place on the midfielder.
Transfermarkt’s €25m valuation provides an indication of Timber’s current market worth, but the final amount involved in any agreement between the clubs has not been confirmed. Until those negotiations are concluded, Timber remains a Marseille player.
