Cristiano Ronaldo has moved into fourth place outright among the Saudi Pro League’s all-time leading scorers after netting in Al Nassr’s 3-0 victory over Al Diriyah.
The Portugal captain broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute of Friday’s match at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh, in the eighth round of the Saudi Pro League.
French winger Kingsley Coman struck a powerful effort which was saved by Al Diriyah goalkeeper Walid Abdullah. The ball fell to Ronaldo in front of an unguarded goal, allowing him to score Al Nassr’s opening goal.
The strike took Ronaldo’s league total to 106 goals, one clear of former Al Nassr forward Mohammed Al-Sahlawi, according to Opta statistics.
Omar Al Somah leads the competition’s all-time scoring list with 161 goals, followed by Abderrazak Hamdallah on 158 and Nasser Al-Shamrani on 114. Ronaldo now occupies fourth place on his own.
The 41-year-old needs another eight goals to draw level with Al-Shamrani in third place.
Ronaldo also extended his record for scoring against different teams in the competition. Al Diriyah became the 24th club against which he has scored in the Saudi Pro League, putting him level with Al-Shamrani for goals against the highest number of different opponents.
Only three players have scored against more clubs in the competition. Salem Al-Dawsari and Syria international Al Somah have found the net against 27 different teams, while Morocco international Hamdallah has scored against 26.
Ronaldo has scored four goals in the current Saudi Pro League season. He is seven goals behind English striker Ivan Toney, who leads the scoring charts with 11.
The result maintained Al Nassr’s progress in the eighth round, while Ronaldo continued to add to his record in Saudi Arabia by surpassing Al-Sahlawi and closing in on Al-Shamrani’s total.
