Coventry City agree deal to sign Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi

Coventry City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi on a permanent transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The deal between the two clubs has been finalised, with Awoniyi now undergoing his medical before the move can be officially completed. Unless an issue emerges during those examinations, the 29-year-old is expected to become Coventry’s latest attacking addition shortly.

The transfer would give Frank Lampard’s side a powerful centre-forward with experience at the highest level of English football. Awoniyi’s physical presence and ability to lead the line are expected to provide Coventry with additional options in attack as they prepare for the new campaign.

Awoniyi is currently contracted to Nottingham Forest until 30 June 2027. His market value is estimated at €8m by Transfermarkt, while his reported annual salary is €2,992,948, equivalent to 1,945,416,200 FCFA.

The move to Coventry would represent a fresh stage in the striker’s career. Having been with Nottingham Forest, Awoniyi is now set to continue his career elsewhere in England if he successfully completes the final formalities of the transfer.

The medical is the remaining significant step in the process. Once it is completed and the relevant paperwork is signed, Coventry City are expected to confirm the arrival of the Nigeria international.

Nottingham Forest are due to begin their English league campaign against Leeds United very soon. The match will be the first fixture of the season for Nottingham Forest, with the club preparing for the opening-day meeting as negotiations over Awoniyi’s future reach their conclusion.

Betting company 1xBet lists Nottingham Forest as the favourites for that match at odds of 2.10. A draw is priced at 3.25, while Leeds United are available at 3.05.
