Courtois to reach 700th club appearance for Real Madrid against AEK Athens

Thibaut Courtois will make his 700th club appearance when Real Madrid face AEK Athens away in the Champions League.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper made his senior debut for Genk in 2009 and has since played 699 club matches. His appearances have been divided between four clubs: 45 for Genk, 154 for Atletico Madrid, 154 for Chelsea and 346 for Real Madrid.

Courtois has conceded 666 goals in those matches, while recording 281 clean sheets. Among goalkeepers from Europe’s top ten leagues over the same period, only Neuer has kept more goals out, with 320 clean sheets.

The milestone will further underline Courtois’ consistency across a career that has included spells in Belgium, Spain and England. His 281 shut-outs place him second in the comparison, despite him having made fewer appearances than several of the other goalkeepers listed.
