Congo boost attacking options with Bifouma and Mbenza returns

Congo international Thievy Bifouma has returned to the national team squad after being named in coach Claude Le Roy’s selection for the upcoming double-header against the Comoros.

The striker is currently preparing for club duty with Iranian side Persepolis, having taken part in the team’s final training sessions ahead of their Persian Gulf Pro League fixture against Nassaji on Saturday, 31 October.

Persepolis travel to Babol for the Matchday 10 encounter, with Bifouma hoping to help his side secure a positive result and maintain their ambitions during the first half of the season.

The focus on the league fixture also gives the Congolese forward an opportunity to build his match fitness and sharpness ahead of his return to international duty.

Bifouma’s inclusion in Le Roy’s squad is one of the notable developments in the latest selection for Congo’s two matches against the Comoros. His return is accompanied by the recall of striker Guy Mbenza and goalkeeper Vimalin.

The squad also features two new additions, Mboula and Fernandez, who have been included for the first time.

For Bifouma, the immediate task is to deliver for Persepolis before turning his attention to the national team.

His experience with the Red Devils is expected to be an asset as Congo prepare for the two meetings with the Comoros.

The forward has been involved in the club’s preparations in the days leading up to the Nassaji fixture, with the coaching staff looking to make the most of his attacking qualities.

The match presents a demanding away assignment for Persepolis. Playing in Babol, the Iranian club will be seeking a result that supports its objectives in the league campaign.

Bifouma will be hoping to contribute to that effort, while also using the opportunity to strengthen his physical and mental condition ahead of the next international training camp.

His return to the Congo squad comes as Le Roy reshapes his options for the Comoros double-header.

The inclusion of Mbenza and Vimalin adds familiar faces to the selection, while the call-ups of Mboula and Fernandez provide two newcomers with an opportunity to make their mark.

With the national team fixtures approaching, the performances of players at club level will be important as they look to arrive in camp in good condition.
