Como will play their home matches in the 2026-27 Champions League at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia after completing renovation work to bring the historic ground up to UEFA standards.
The club confirmed on Thursday that Cesc Fabregas’s side will remain at their regular home for their first appearance in the competition.
Como secured Champions League qualification for the first time in their history at the end of the 2025-26 season, but there had been uncertainty over where they would stage their European fixtures.
The Stadio Sinigaglia has been Como’s home for almost 100 years, having been built in 1927. However, the club’s rapid rise from Serie B to the Champions League across the past three seasons raised doubts about whether the stadium could satisfy UEFA’s requirements for European football.
Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium, approximately 200km away from the city of Sinigaglia, had been suggested as a possible alternative venue for Como’s home matches.
Those concerns have now been resolved after a programme of improvements was completed at the ground. The work included the construction of a new stand, alongside upgrades to the stadium’s infrastructure, safety arrangements and operational facilities.
“Como 1907 can confirm that the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia has been officially approved to host the Club’s home fixtures in the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League,” read a statement on the club website.
“It means Champions League football will be played at the Sinigaglia, allowing Como supporters to experience the Club’s first season in the competition at home, on the shores of Lake Como.
“To meet UEFA requirements, a programme of works has been completed at the stadium, including the construction of a new stand and upgrades across its infrastructure, safety and operational facilities.
“The Sinigaglia has been home to Como 1907 for nearly a century. Its place in the city and in the life of the Club makes the opportunity to play these matches here particularly special.
“Como 1907 would like to thank everyone who has worked to make this possible, as well as our supporters for their patience and continued support throughout the process.
“We look forward to welcoming European football to Como, together.”
The decision means Como’s supporters will be able to watch the club’s historic Champions League campaign at home, at a stadium situated on the shores of Lake Como.
The Sinigaglia’s long association with Como was central to the club’s desire to retain the venue. Having served as their home since 1927, the stadium occupies an important place in both the city and the identity of Como 1907.
The club said the renovations were undertaken to meet UEFA’s standards while preserving the opportunity to stage the matches at its traditional home. European football will therefore come to Como without the team having to move its Champions League fixtures to another city.
