Christopher Olivier: Schalke 04 eye Stuttgart II’s Austrian-South African right-back in Bundesliga move

Christopher Olivier, the Austrian-South African right-back currently at Stuttgart II, is being linked with a move to Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04. The 20-year-old defender, who is under contract with the 3. Liga club until 30 June 2028, has emerged as a rumoured target as Schalke look to reinforce on the right side of their defence.

Olivier has been a regular at senior third-tier level, making 47 appearances in 3. Liga and contributing one goal and five assists, underlining his experience despite his age. His current market valuation stands at around €1.2 million, a figure that could make him an attainable option for a top-flight club seeking depth and potential resale value.

Standing at 1.87m and predominantly right-footed, Olivier has been developed within the Stuttgart system since moving from Vorarlberg’s youth ranks, progressing from Stuttgart U17 to U19 before stepping up to Stuttgart II in July 2024. His attacking output earlier in his youth career, including 19 goals in 24 matches in Austria’s U16 Jugendliga, has marked him out as a defender with notable end product at youth level.

Born in Au in January 2006, Olivier holds both Austrian and South African nationality, offering Schalke the prospect of a player eligible for multiple national team pathways as his career develops. For now, he remains tied to Stuttgart II on a long-term deal, leaving any potential move dependent on the Bundesliga club testing his current employer’s resolve.
