AC Milan have informed Christopher Nkunku that he is no longer part of the club’s plans, with the France forward now able to leave either on a permanent transfer or on loan.
The decision was reported by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano and represents a clear change in Nkunku’s position at the Italian club. Milan are prepared to consider both a full transfer and a temporary move for the 28-year-old, although no details have been given about potential destinations or negotiations.
Nkunku joined Milan from Chelsea in August 2025. Since moving to the Rossoneri, he has made 32 Serie A appearances, scoring seven goals and providing three assists.
His reported market value is €25m.
The former Chelsea forward is not the only player whose position has come under scrutiny at Milan. It had previously been reported that head coach Ruben Amorim was not counting on Nkunku, Fikayo Tomori, Youssouf Fofana and David Odogu for his plans.
Rafael Leao and Santiago Gimenez are also not considered completely secure within the squad, according to earlier reports.
Milan’s message to Nkunku means the club are willing to facilitate his departure despite his relatively recent arrival and his contribution in Serie A. The player’s next move could therefore take place either through a permanent transfer or through a loan agreement, giving interested clubs two possible routes to sign him.
Nkunku’s record at Milan includes seven goals and three assists from his 32 league matches, but those figures have not been enough to secure his place in Amorim’s plans. The club’s decision leaves his future open as Milan assess their options for the forward.
For now, Nkunku remains a Milan player, but the club’s willingness to listen to offers has placed him among a group of players whose long-term futures are uncertain. His market valuation of €25m could be a factor in determining whether a permanent move is completed, while a loan would provide an alternative for clubs unable to meet that figure.
Milan have not indicated which option they would prefer. The message delivered to Nkunku is that he can seek a new club, either temporarily or on a permanent basis, after only one year in the Rossoneri squad.
