Christian Ebere, the Nigerian centre-forward currently at CD Cruz Azul, is being linked with a move to Brazilian Serie A side Vasco da Gama. The Rio de Janeiro club are exploring a deal for the 28-year-old as they look to add a proven goalscorer with recent success in Latin America.
Ebere is under contract with Cruz Azul until 31 December 2028, meaning any transfer would require Vasco to negotiate a fee with the Mexican champions. He joined the Liga MX side in February 2026 from Plaza Colonia for around €1.27 million and is currently valued at €1 million.
The forward has made an encouraging start to the new Liga MX Apertura campaign, scoring once in his first two appearances, contributing to 20% of Cruz Azul’s goals in the early stages of the season. His role in last season’s Clausura triumph, when he finished as a Mexican Clausura champion with four goals, has strengthened his reputation in the region.
Before moving to Mexico, Ebere won the Uruguayan league title with Club Nacional in the 2024-25 season, adding to a CV that also includes winning the Under-17 World Cup with Nigeria in 2015. His experience across South America, including spells in Uruguay and Brazil earlier in his career, is viewed as a potential asset for Vasco as they reshape their attack.
While there is interest from Vasco da Gama, Ebere remains a key part of Cruz Azul’s squad and is tied to a long-term deal in Mexico, leaving his future dependent on whether the Brazilian side are willing to match the Mexican club’s valuation.
