Chelsea and Manchester United tracking Benfica defender Tomas Araujo over €80m clause

Chelsea and Manchester United are showing serious interest in Benfica’s versatile defender Tomas Araujo, according to TEAMtalk.

Representatives from both Premier League clubs watched the 24-year-old during Benfica’s 2-0 Europa League victory over Milan. Araujo impressed in that match, increasing interest in his situation.

Tottenham, Newcastle and Brighton are also monitoring the Portugal international. However, a move during the winter transfer window is considered unlikely.

Araujo recently extended his Benfica contract until 2031. The new agreement includes an €80m release clause.

The defender has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
