Chancel Mbemba’s proposed move to Botafogo in serious doubt amid family and financial issues

The proposed transfer of Chancel Mbemba to Brazilian side Botafogo is now highly unlikely to go through, with talks said to have stalled over both personal and financial issues.

The Democratic Republic of Congo captain had been strongly linked with a switch to the Rio de Janeiro club, and interest from Brazil had appeared a credible option for the defender’s next move.

However, according to information reported by Leopardsactu, negotiations have been hit by significant non-sporting complications that have effectively frozen the deal.

Family reluctance a major obstacle

The report states that Mbemba’s family are not willing to relocate to Latin America this summer, creating a major obstacle to any agreement.

Their reluctance to contemplate such a major change of lifestyle is described as a key factor undermining the chances of finalising the transfer.

That stance from his close entourage has added a substantial personal dimension to the doubts surrounding the move, and is now viewed as one of the principal reasons the operation is close to collapsing.

Financial disagreements deepen deadlock

On top of the family concerns, there have also been unresolved financial disagreements between the two parties.

Discussions over Mbemba’s salary demands and his personal terms have not produced a compromise, with both sides remaining apart on key contractual details.

These long-standing financial differences had already slowed progress and, combined with the new personal issues, have effectively brought talks to a standstill.

When taken together, the family’s refusal to move and the lack of agreement on wages and conditions appear to have pushed the negotiations towards failure.

As things stand, the accumulation of financial and personal obstacles is understood to have left the transfer “strongly compromised”, with the discussions between the Leopards’ captain and the carioca club seemingly heading for an outcome in which no deal is reached.
