Cameroon crush Algeria 11-1 on aggregate in U17 World Cup qualifiers

Cameroon U17 women’s team delivered one of the most emphatic performances of the qualification campaign, thrashing Algeria 6-0 in Yaoundé to seal progression to the next round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The result, played at the Olembé Stadium, completed a crushing 11-1 aggregate victory for the Central African side, underlining their growing strength in youth women’s football on the continent.

Having already secured a commanding 5-1 win in the first leg in Blida, Cameroon entered the return fixture with a clear advantage.

However, any hopes of a response from Algeria were quickly extinguished as the hosts imposed themselves from the outset with intensity and attacking precision.

The match was defined by standout individual performances, particularly from Élisabeth Theresa Sekem and Andrea Mimbama, who both scored hat-tricks.

Their clinical finishing and movement proved too much for an Algerian side that struggled physically and tactically to cope with the pace of the game.

By the final whistle, Algeria appeared exhausted, having conceded six unanswered goals in a one-sided contest that highlighted the gap between the two teams.

The defeat confirmed their elimination from the qualifiers, while Cameroon advanced with confidence and momentum.

Cameroon’s dominance across both legs reflects a well-structured and disciplined team capable of competing at the highest level in African youth football.

The Lionesses’ ability to convert chances and maintain defensive solidity positions them as one of the teams to watch in the next phase of the qualifiers.

Their reward is a second-round clash against Senegal, setting up a high-profile all-African encounter between two sides showing strong early promise in the competition.

The qualifiers form part of the pathway to the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup scheduled to be hosted in Morocco later in 2026, adding further significance to Cameroon’s dominant display.

With their attacking firepower and confidence growing, Cameroon now shift focus to the next challenge, where sterner tests are expected.

But based on this performance, they have firmly announced themselves as serious contenders.
