Cameroon will begin their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign against Comoros on Thursday, 24 September, with the Indomitable Lions facing a side that has shown it can compete with stronger opposition.
The match will be played at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua, where Cameroon will start the campaign as favourites. Comoros, however, have made significant progress in recent years and will arrive with confidence from their previous encounter with the five-time African champions.
The Coelacanths pushed Cameroon close at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations despite facing major difficulties during that meeting. They played much of the contest with 10 men and did not have a specialist goalkeeper, yet Cameroon were made to work for their 2-1 victory.
That performance demonstrated Comoros’ ability to remain competitive under difficult circumstances and highlighted some of the qualities that could make Thursday’s match challenging for Cameroon.
Comoros are expected to rely on a well-organised defence, rapid movement when possession changes hands and the ability to maintain concentration throughout the match.
Their squad also contains players with experience in European leagues, providing the team with additional tactical discipline and confidence as they prepare to face Cameroon again.
