CAF Awards 2026: 10 coaches shortlisted for African Coach of the Year

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the nominees for the 2026 African Coach of the Year award, with national-team managers and club coaches recognised for their work across the continent.

The shortlist was released on 4 November 2026 as part of the CAF Awards 2026. CAF has named 10 contenders for the prize, although the published selection includes Lamine N’Diaye of USM Alger, Pedro Leitao Brito, known as Bubista, of Cape Verde, Sebastien Desabre of the DR Congo, Hossam Hassan of Egypt, Moatamed Gamal of Zamalek, Alexandre Santos of AS FAR, Mohamed Ouahbi of Morocco, Walid Regragui of Morocco, Pape Thiaw of Senegal and Miguel Cardoso of Mamelodi Sundowns.

The candidates reflect a mixture of established coaches and managers who have recently made an impact in African competitions. Some have been recognised for their work with national sides, while others have been selected for their domestic and continental club performances.

Morocco leads the way with three nominees. Regragui, Ouahbi and Santos represent the country in a category which highlights Morocco’s influence at both international and club level.

Egypt has two representatives in Hossam Hassan and Moatamed Gamal. Senegal is represented by Thiaw, while Bubista is the sole nominee from Cape Verde.

Bubista, who led Cape Verde to the award in 2025, is among the most closely watched candidates after receiving another nomination. His inclusion reflects the recognition he has earned for his work with the Blue Sharks.

National-team and club achievements recognised

Desabre is nominated after distinguishing himself with the DR Congo on the international stage. Thiaw also attracted attention during his time in charge of Senegal, while Hossam Hassan enters the race with a case to make for the award.

The club coaches completing the selection are Lamine N’Diaye, Moatamed Gamal, Alexandre Santos and Miguel Cardoso. Their nominations underline the range of coaching achievements represented among this year’s candidates.

The winner will be announced on 7 December 2026 at the CAF Awards ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria. The nominees will be seeking recognition for their work and results during the eligibility period.
