Burkina Faso’s Mohamed Ouédraogo edges closer to Lyon move

French side Lyon are reportedly closing in on the signing of Burkina Faso international Mohamed Ouédraogo as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of a return to European competition.

According to reports, Lyon have moved into a leading position in the race for the 23-year-old left-back, who impressed during the recently concluded season with Austrian club SCR Altach.

The potential transfer would mark a significant step in the career of the Burkinabe defender, who has steadily built a reputation as one of the emerging talents from West Africa playing in Europe.

Ouédraogo joined Austrian football from Majestic FC and has since established himself as a key figure at SCR Altach.

His performances during the last campaign attracted attention from several clubs, but Lyon are now believed to be the frontrunners for his signature.

The defender enjoyed a productive season in Austria, making 35 appearances in all competitions.

In addition to his defensive duties, he contributed four goals and four assists, highlighting his ability to influence matches at both ends of the pitch.

Those displays have not only strengthened his standing at club level but have also helped him become a regular member of the Burkina Faso national team.

The 23-year-old has already earned nine international caps and is regarded as one of the country’s promising defenders.

For Burkina Faso, a move to one of France’s most historic clubs would represent another positive development for the national team’s growing contingent of players competing at higher levels of European football.

Lyon’s interest appears to be driven by both immediate and long-term needs. The French club is preparing for Champions League qualifying football and is seeking additional depth in the left-back position.

Reports suggest the club views Ouédraogo as a player capable of providing competition for Nicolas Tagliafico while also helping fill the gap left by the expected departure of Abner.

At 23, the Burkina Faso international fits the profile of a player who can contribute immediately while still offering room for further development.

His current market valuation is reported to be around €1.2 million, making him an attractive option for clubs seeking quality and potential at a relatively modest cost.

While no official announcement has yet been made, indications suggest negotiations are progressing positively.

Lyon are said to have established a significant advantage over other interested clubs and could soon secure the services of the defender.

Should the transfer be completed, Ouédraogo would gain the opportunity to test himself at a higher level of European football and potentially feature in one of the continent’s most prestigious club competitions.
