Burkina Faso national football team have been dealt a major setback ahead of the June FIFA international window after key players Nasser Djiga and Hervé Koffi were ruled out through injury.
The Burkina Faso Football Federation confirmed that both players will miss the upcoming international friendlies against Russia national football team on June 5 and Belarus national football team on June 9.
Their absence represents a significant blow for head coach Amir Abdou as he continues preparations with the Stallions ahead of future continental and international competitions.
Djiga has grown into one of Burkina Faso’s most important defensive players thanks to his physical presence, composure and strong club performances. His withdrawal deprives the team of one of its most promising defensive options for the two matches.
Meanwhile, the absence of experienced goalkeeper Koffi is another major concern for the Burkinabe side. The shot-stopper has long been one of the squad’s most dependable figures and remains an influential leader both on and off the pitch.
Despite the setback, the coaching staff have acted quickly to reinforce the squad.
The federation confirmed that Rachid Gnanou has been called up to replace Djiga, while Farid Sofiane Ouedraogo will take Koffi’s place in the squad.
Both players are expected to join the national team camp in Ouagadougou as preparations continue.
The upcoming fixtures are expected to provide Abdou with another opportunity to evaluate his squad, test tactical approaches and continue building momentum ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
For Gnanou and Ouedraogo, the call-ups also represent important opportunities to impress the coaching staff and strengthen their positions within the national team setup.
