Amir Abdou names Burkina Faso squad for Russia and Belarus friendlies

Amir Abdou has announced a 25-man squad for Burkina Faso’s upcoming international friendlies against Russia and Belarus during the June international window.

The Burkina Faso national football team will face Russia on June 5 in Volgograd before taking on Belarus four days later in Minsk, with both matches expected to serve as key preparation for future competitive fixtures.

The fixtures will give Abdou an opportunity to assess squad depth, refine tactical ideas and build cohesion as the team continues its preparations for upcoming qualification campaigns.

The squad features a mix of experienced internationals and emerging talents, with several Europe-based players included in the selection. Among the headline names are Dango Ouattara, Edmond Tapsoba and Nasser Djiga.

Ouattara, who plays in the Premier League, is expected to provide attacking threat with his pace and creativity, while Tapsoba will continue to anchor the defence with his composure and experience at the highest level of European football.

The squad also highlights Burkina Faso’s continued focus on developing younger talent as the team looks to build a more competitive unit on the continental stage.

However, forward Lassina Traoré was left out of the squad due to travel and passport complications related to the trip to Russia, despite enjoying a strong season with Shakhtar Donetsk.

The two friendlies are expected to test Burkina Faso against physically strong opposition, offering Abdou further insight into player combinations and tactical flexibility.

Supporters will also be eager to see how the younger players adapt at senior international level alongside established stars as the team continues its long-term rebuilding process.
