Burkina Faso’s government has approved the creation of the “Ligue de la souverainete”, a new competition designed to expand high-level football across the country and strengthen the development of emerging talent.
The decision was taken at a Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday, 8 October 2026. The competition is part of the Presidential Initiative for the Development and Promotion of Sporting Talent, according to Annick Lydie Ouattara, Minister of Sports, Youth and Employment.
