Arsenal are hoping Bruno Guimaraes can transform the structure of their midfield after completing his move from Newcastle United for £75m.
The 28-year-old Brazil international arrives at Emirates Stadium with the unusual ability to combine physical strength with technical quality. He can operate both as a holding midfielder and in a more advanced central role, giving Mikel Arteta an attacking solution that was not previously available to the Arsenal manager.
However, Guimaraes’ arrival also leaves Arteta with a significant selection challenge. His presence adds another prominent option to a midfield that already includes Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Guimaraes therefore brings both an opportunity and a problem. His range of abilities could give Arsenal additional attacking answers and allow the side to vary its midfield structure, but accommodating him alongside the existing options will require decisions from Arteta.
