Brighton suffer early injury blow as Liverpool take control at Anfield

Brighton defender Ferdi Kadioglu was forced off after just six minutes as Liverpool made a fast start to their Premier League meeting at Anfield on Sunday.

Kadioglu was injured following a challenge involving Ryan Gravenberch and was replaced by Kostinia. The incident added to Brighton’s early problems in the eighth round of the competition.

Liverpool then moved 2-0 ahead in the opening 21 minutes. Florian Wirtz opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Alexander Isak extended the home side’s advantage four minutes later.

Brighton had started the season strongly and arrived at Anfield with 16 points from their opening seven matches, placing them third in the Premier League table. Liverpool began the game with 13 points in fifth place.

Despite falling behind, Brighton remain the division’s leading scorers this season, with their players having found the net 23 times.
