Brighton linked with Benfica defender Daniel Banjaqui

Portugal and Guinea-Bissau defender Daniel Banjaqui has been linked with a move from Benfica to Brighton in the Premier League.

The 18-year-old right-back joined Benfica’s senior side from the club’s B team in July 2026 and is under contract until 30 June 2031. His current market value is listed at €10m.

Banjaqui has made two appearances in Liga Portugal and one in the Europa League this season. He has also started all three of his Liga Portugal 2 appearances, completing 93% of the available minutes in that competition.

The Lisbon-born defender progressed through Benfica’s academy after joining from Real Formacao as a youth player. He made the move to Benfica’s Under-17 side in 2023 before stepping up to the B team two years later.

Internationally, Banjaqui helped Portugal Under-17s win both the Under-17 World Cup and European Under-17 Championship in 2025. He also won the Torneio Internacional Algarve U17 with the same age-group side that year.

A move to Brighton would represent a switch from Liga Portugal to the Premier League, but there is no indication that an agreement has been reached. Banjaqui remains a Benfica player with five years left on his current contract.
