Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey has extended his contract with the club until the summer of 2031.
The 24-year-old’s previous agreement was due to expire in June 2029, but Sunderland have secured his long-term future at the Stadium of Light.
Brobbey joined the Black Cats after their promotion to the Premier League last summer and has scored 10 goals in 40 appearances for the club.
Seven of those goals came during the 2025-26 season, when Sunderland produced an impressive campaign to qualify for this season’s Europa League. They have remained unbeaten in their opening three matches in the competition, with two wins and one draw.
The Netherlands striker has scored three goals so far this term, all of them in Sunderland’s 5-3 Premier League defeat by Manchester City.
That hat-trick made Brobbey the first Sunderland player to score three times in a Premier League match since Jermain Defoe in 2016.
He also became only the fourth player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick against a team beginning the day at the top of the table.
The other players to achieve that were Robbie Fowler for Aston Villa in November 1998, Dirk Kuyt against Manchester United in March 2011 and Romelu Lukaku against United in May 2013.
Brobbey said he was pleased with the faith Sunderland had shown in him and wanted to continue developing at the club.
“I’m really happy with the confidence the club has shown in me. Since I arrived, I’ve felt the ambition here, and I want to keep growing and improving as a player,” he told the club website.
“Representing Sunderland in the Premier League is both an honour and a privilege.
“Having played my part in helping this club qualify for European competition is something I’m incredibly proud of. It’s an achievement that will always be part of the club’s history.
“I know I still can be a better version of myself, and that’s what motivates me every day. I want to score goals, help the team and give our fans something to be proud of.”
