Brentford and Tottenham set for Premier League meeting as contrasting form takes centre stage

Brentford and Tottenham will meet in the Premier League on Saturday, with the two clubs heading into the fixture after very different campaigns last season and contrasting results during pre-season.

The match will begin at 19:30 Moscow time, with Brentford looking to build on an encouraging preparation period. The Bees finished ninth in the previous Premier League season, collecting 53 points from their 38 matches.

Their latest friendly results have further strengthened the sense of optimism around the team. Brentford first defeated Rennes 4-2 before producing an even more emphatic result in their next match, beating Eintracht 7-0.

Those two victories underline the side’s attacking effectiveness before the start of the new Premier League campaign. The Bees scored 11 goals across the matches against Rennes and Eintracht, while their second successive win came by a particularly wide margin.

Tottenham, by contrast, ended the previous league season much closer to the relegation places. The Spurs finished 17th, taking 41 points from 38 matches, and narrowly avoided being drawn into the relegation zone.

That league position means Tottenham will begin the new campaign under pressure to produce a stronger performance. Their meeting with Brentford therefore brings together a side that finished in the top half last season and another that ended just above the relegation places.

The difference between the clubs’ final positions was eight places, while Brentford collected 12 more points than Tottenham over the course of the previous Premier League season. Saturday’s fixture will provide the teams with an early opportunity to establish momentum.

For Brentford, the 4-2 victory over Rennes and the 7-0 success against Eintracht offer an upbeat backdrop to the contest. Tottenham will be seeking a better start after their difficult previous league campaign, when they finished 17th with 41 points.
