Brentford agree club-record £41m deal for Mali star Mamadou Sangare

Brentford have reached a verbal agreement with RC Lens to sign Mali midfielder Mamadou Sangare in a deal worth around £41m.

Sangare is scheduled to undergo his medical on Friday, with the final paperwork expected to be completed over the weekend before he puts pen to paper on his Brentford contract.

The transfer will become a club-record deal for the Bees, surpassing their previous record fee as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

The 24-year-old midfielder has emerged as one of Lens’ most highly-rated players, attracting attention with his defensive work, physical presence and ability to progress the ball from midfield.

Brentford moved quickly to secure an agreement after identifying Sangare as a key target, with the club now close to completing one of the biggest signings in their history.

The Mali international’s arrival would represent a major statement of ambition from Brentford as they look to build on their progress in the Premier League and maintain their reputation for recruiting emerging talent.
