Juventus began their Serie A campaign with a 1-0 win against Frosinone, extending their record to 14 victories in their past 16 opening league matches. The result also meant Frosinone’s 100% losing record on the first matchday of a Serie A season remained intact.
Frosinone could hardly have faced a more demanding opponent on their return to Italy’s top flight, and the early stages reflected the scale of the challenge. Juventus quickly established control and repeatedly exposed gaps in the home defence.
Gleison Bremer provided the first warning when he sent a header narrowly wide of the post. Frosinone failed to respond to the danger, and Bremer soon played a decisive role again. His flick-on reached Randal Kolo Muani in space at the far post, but the France forward could only volley wildly over the crossbar.
The breakthrough arrived shortly afterwards. Bremer moved in front of Frosinone goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisan, meeting Francisco Conceicao’s inviting delivery with a header that found the net and gave Juventus a deserved lead.
The hosts had to wait until the 40th minute for their first serious opportunity. Gabriele Bragaglia forced debutant Guglielmo Vicario into a save with a powerful effort from distance, before Giorgi Kvernadze struck the rebound into the side netting.
Juventus continued to press after half-time and came close to doubling their advantage when Conceicao cut inside and sent a shot narrowly over the bar.
The Portuguese winger remained one of the most threatening players on the pitch, frequently finding possession in the final third. However, his finishing let him down again midway through the second half, when he drove a left-footed attempt wide from the edge of the penalty area.
The visitors created further openings but could not add a second goal, leaving them vulnerable to a late equaliser. Frosinone were unable to make their pressure count, although Gabriele Calvani came within inches of levelling in stoppage time when his header crashed against the crossbar.
That miss ensured Frosinone suffered a fourth consecutive defeat on matchday one in Serie A. Juventus, meanwhile, secured the ideal start and extended an impressive record against newly promoted opposition, having now avoided defeat in 20 of their past 21 top-flight matches against promoted teams.
Bremer was named Flashscore’s Man of the Match for his goal and influential display at the back.
