Borussia Dortmund’s defensive problems have deepened after Ryerson left Norway’s squad early because of injury.
The full-back was substituted in the 16th minute of Norway’s match against Wales. He had already been assessed for a possible concussion following the Nations League game against Denmark, although he said he had recovered in time to face Wales.
Norway manager Stale Solbakken said Ryerson had not been experiencing any problems before being hurt.
“He had no problems, but he took a heavy hit in one of the first few challenges,” Solbakken said at a press conference.
Norwegian media have also reported that Ryerson could have suffered a rib injury. He will now return to Borussia Dortmund ahead of schedule for further medical examinations.
The extent of the injury has not been confirmed, but any period on the sidelines would represent another setback for Dortmund’s defence.
On Saturday, Nico Schlotterbeck, a key member of the club’s back line, injured his ankle while training with Germany’s national team. Ryerson’s early departure from Norway therefore leaves Dortmund facing a second injury concern among their defenders in the space of a few days.
