Borussia Dortmund have signed Genoa teenager Roberto Scaglione, with the German club paying about €1m for one of Italy’s most highly regarded young players.
Scaglione will leave Serie A for the German Bundesliga, where Borussia Dortmund plan to continue his development and help him fulfil his potential. The transfer is another opportunity for the 15-year-old, who has already made club history at Genoa.
The move has been confirmed by respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. Scaglione’s switch to Dortmund comes despite reported interest from several leading European clubs, including Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain, as well as a number of Italy’s biggest clubs.
At the age of 15, Scaglione became Genoa’s youngest player to appear in a Serie A match. His record-breaking appearance placed him among the club’s youngest senior players and attracted attention beyond Italy.
Borussia Dortmund have agreed to invest about one million euros in the teenager, with the club now set to oversee the next stage of his football education in Germany. The transfer reflects Dortmund’s willingness to recruit young talent and develop players with long-term potential, while Genoa lose a player who had already entered their record books at an exceptionally young age.
Scaglione’s move also gives added significance to the competition for his signature. Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain were among the clubs interested in the player, while leading Italian sides were also said to have been monitoring his situation.
